In preparing for WISER’s semi-annual board meeting this weekend, I came across materials from our first convening, WISER Dialogue: Defining a Policy Agenda for Women of Color.” The convening brought together the following experts:
- Nina Banks, Associate Professor of Economics, Bucknell University.
- Sacha Blalock, Program Coordinator, Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Bennett College.
- Cruz Bueno, Assistant Professor of Black Studies, SUNY New Paltz.
- Jeffrey Burnette, Assistant Professor of Economics & Director of the Native American Future Stewards Program, Rochester Institute of Technology.
- Estella L. Hunt, Pivot Partners, Oakland, California.
- Nancy Lopez, Associate Professor of Sociology, University of New Mexico
- Valerie Wilson and Janelle Jordan, Program on Race and Ethnicity in the Economy, Economic Policy Institute.
- Elaine Woo, Legal Director, Atlanta Women for Equality.
As a group, we developed WISER’s guidelines for the economic, cultural, political, and social well-being of Asian, Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Multiracial women.
Given the economic and health crisis resulting from COVID-19, WISER must revisit these frameworks and make them an integral part of our policy recommendations for protecting the most vulnerable women and their families.
